The Lower Deer Creek-Penn Valley Hazardous Fuels Reduction Project is a 1,011 acre project designed to address the outcomes of the study. Key Benefits - Protect critical infrastructure such as water and sewer treatment facilities. - Create safe ingress for first responders and egress for evacuating residents, focusing on fuel mitigation on private parcels adjacent to primary arteries, notably Highway 20, Pleasant Valley Road, Mooney Flat Road, and Bitney Springs Road. - Support watershed protection around the Deer Creek Canyon.FEMA Funding Nevada County was granted funding for Phase 1 of the project through FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. This is a matching grant, meaning it requires a matching community investment. Matching maximizes the grant impact and encourages widespread community support of the project. We Need Your Help The Phase 1 grant requires a 25% match, a total of $217,740.75 which will be satisfied through in-kind investment of Firewise Communities in the project footprint.
