Pinochle

The Lake Wildwood Pinochle Club dates back to the early 1980s.  It was started by Moe Peloquin, Ron Stanley and Mike Rough (all no longer members).  They played mostly in their homes.  In 1991 the Lake Wildwood Pinochle Club was chartered and played the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month at the Marina Recreation Room.  In October we sometimes play on the 2nd and 3rd Saturday due to to a Halloween commitment for the Tennis Club.  In November and December we only play the 2nd Saturday due to the holidays later in the month.  We have our Christmas Potluck on the 2nd Saturday of December.

We do not pay dues, but currently are paying $2 each time we play per person.  Enough money is kept for expenses and the potluck -- the balance is paid back in prizes.

We start playing promptly at 7pm;  each person brings snacks.  We are able to use the kitchen facilities for coffee, etc. during the winter months.  From the end of May until after Labor Day, the kitchen facilities are used as a pool Snack Shack.  We bring our own coffee, etc. from home during the summer months.

The officers are not usually elected, but volunteer.  Dona Donabedian and Betty Strle have been alternating President/Vice President and Secretary/Treasurer for the past 6 years.  Lately, Nancy Peake has become Sergeant-at-Arms -- she lets us know when we can start another game so that we all end up at the same time.  We average about 6 tables per play night, but have had as many as 9 tables.  We divide the prize money via a chart with the number of tables playing determining how many places we pay.  You can win as much as $10 for first place with last place usually $3.  We usually finish before 11pm.

We play single deck 4-handed pinochle (or 3-handed if it becomes necessary).  All Lake Wildwood pinochle players, singles, doubles, or couples, are welcome.  We are not a teaching group, so knowledge of the game of pinochle is required.  We do require that one of the officers be notified if you wish to join us on a 2nd or 4th Saturday as there is a shortage of card tables in the Recreation Room and sometimes we need to bring tables.  Each member on the roster is called the Monday or Tuesday before our play date;  calls are made by the Host/Hostess of that particular night.  We are a fun group and the snacks are really gourmet delights.
