Gold Duster's

  Home Up

Goldusters is a club for couples who own a recreational vehicle and who live in western Nevada County. Most of the current members reside in Lake Wildwood.

The club makes an outing each month from March through October. In November, the club has its "President's Dinner", arranged by the current club president. In December, the club enjoys its annual Christmas party. January and February are idle months, but several of our members do their "snowbird" thing at an RV park in Indio during that period.

Most club outings are made to an RV park located within 200 miles of Penn Valley. Occasionally, the mileage to an outing destination will be greater than 200.

Outings always begin on the third Tuesday of the month. On Tuesday evening, the club enjoys a happy hour and pot-luck dinner, followed by a (usually) short business meeting and socializing as desired. On Wednesday, the golfing members play a nearby course; the non-golfers explore the vicinity or take advantage of the opportunity to socialize and/or just loaf. On Wednesday night, after happy hour, we usually have dinner at a nearby restaurant selected by the wagonmaster. Many club members return home on Thursday. Others stay on for one, two or more days. In the summer, a wagonmaster may elect to arrange a club picnic, rather than an outing.

Members share the wagonmaster duties in rotation. The wagonmaster selects the outing site, makes necessary arrangements with the RV park management, sends out notices of the upcoming outing, assigns pot-luck dishes to those who plan to attend, reserves a few starting times at a nearby golf course, greets arriving members and guests, assists in finding the proper parking spot, collects necessary rental fees, brews an urn of coffee each morning, and generally handles any problems that may arise. A member can plan on having a wagonmaster assignment once every one or two years, depending on the length of the club roster.

Since it is usually more difficult to make RV park arrangements for large groups, Goldusters by-laws limit the number of club members to 25. Annual dues are 15 dollars. A one-time initiation fee of 12 dollars covers the expense (mostly postage and printing) of membership start-up. A potential member must attend two outings as a guest of a club member before being eligible for membership.
